Problems for Germany's drive for wind power?  Of course.  What do you do when the wind stops blowing?  It seems no one has considered this aspect of the problem.  Remarkable.  But with greenies, not really surprising.

The Anaconda in the Chandelier: a great essay from scholar Perry Link about censorship in China. It is a scary system to maintain a totalitarian rule, but every freedom loving person should understand how this system functions and work to expose the violations of basic human rights occurring in China on a daily basis.

Michael Barone on the recent embassy attacks and the Obama Administration response:
...Obama, after his brief statement deploring the Benghazi murders (and not mentioning the attack on the Cairo embassy), immediately embarked on a four-hour plane ride to campaign in Las Vegas. In an interview there with Telemundo, Obama said Egypt was neither an ally nor an enemy. Later, the State Department spokesman conceded that Egypt is officially an ally under a 1989 law. That's an unforced error for an incumbent president, one who has criticized his opponent's lack of foreign policy experience. But perhaps it's not surprising. American Enterprise Institute's Marc Thiessen revealed last week that Obama has skipped more than half of his daily intelligence briefings. He reads the reports instead. His last in-person briefing before 9/11/12 was on Sept. 5.
Read the whole thing.

Dethrone the EPA, from Robert Zubrin.  He nails it again, implicating the EPA in destroying the high producing US oil industry (and therefore driving up oil prices worldwide and enriching OPEC nations), stone-walling the nuclear industry, and killing industry through draconian air pollution standards, typified by the recent CO2 regulations.

Copyright bots taking over streaming video?  Not what is needed, but when streaming companies' biggest concern is getting sued by a copyright holder, this is what we get.  A more expansive fair use definition in the digital arena needs to be promulgated ASAP to limit this threat to a large and rapidly developing area of the internet.

The other night in Kentucky, a 92 yr old WWII vet shot and killed a burglar who had broken into his house. It was the third burglary attempt on his farm that year. Fortunately, we have the right to self defense in the US, and there is no question that this man won't be charged for defending his property and potentially his life.

In stark contrast is our neighbor Britain, where on the same day, one of their citizens, who also had been subjected to multiple break-ins this year, shot an intruder. He was promptly arrested by police, along with his wife, and both were charged with "suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm". To me, this is when you know your country is in serious jeopardy, when the criminals have a right to rob your home and it is illegal to defend yourself. David Cameron claims to want to strengthen the rights for home defense, but it remains to be seen if that effort gets very far.

UPDATE: After being questioned and investigated for three days, the suspected shooters have been released from jail and allowed to return to their home, without being charged. I suppose that is a relief, but the fact that they were charged and then kept in custody for three days is outrageous. Britain needs to get its act together, and judges like this sure aren't helping.

A Guide to Lucid Dreaming. I need to work on some of this.
Quite the reaction from all sides to Paul Ryan's convention speech. The war amongst "fact checkers" is really getting ridiculous, with most debunking attempts completely ignoring reality to call a given statement a lie. A couple good run-downs of the crazy criticisms, here (from Hot Air) and here (from Townhall).
