The Boston Globe has a great comparison of the Massachusetts health care plan and the proposals being discussed in Washington currently, and they make a plea for honesty about the cost. This is because it is doubtful the state can continue to afford the coverage levels mandated by their law. And there is currently no evidence whatsoever that the US can afford to take on these costs as well. Didn't we learn enough on this topic from the Medicare prescription drug bill, which ended up costing three times what was projected?

They are already cutting coverage in Massachusetts. And our national charge card is getting pretty full. But Obama and his allies in Congress want to ram through an expensive public option now anyways, costs be damned. That money will eventually have to come from somewhere besides having the Fed buy up the treasury auctions that don't sell. Sort of like your left hand taking money from your right hand and acting like you just made a profit.
