The other night in Kentucky, a 92 yr old WWII vet shot and killed a burglar who had broken into his house. It was the third burglary attempt on his farm that year. Fortunately, we have the right to self defense in the US, and there is no question that this man won't be charged for defending his property and potentially his life.

In stark contrast is our neighbor Britain, where on the same day, one of their citizens, who also had been subjected to multiple break-ins this year, shot an intruder. He was promptly arrested by police, along with his wife, and both were charged with "suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm". To me, this is when you know your country is in serious jeopardy, when the criminals have a right to rob your home and it is illegal to defend yourself. David Cameron claims to want to strengthen the rights for home defense, but it remains to be seen if that effort gets very far.

UPDATE: After being questioned and investigated for three days, the suspected shooters have been released from jail and allowed to return to their home, without being charged. I suppose that is a relief, but the fact that they were charged and then kept in custody for three days is outrageous. Britain needs to get its act together, and judges like this sure aren't helping.
